GENEROUS townsfolk dug deep into their pockets to support the good cause of Bromsgrove's leading citizen.
By tradition, chairmen of Bromsgrove District Council choose a charity to support during their year in office.
Councillor Mike Gill, whose tenure ended in April, raised a record £8,091.09 for the Macmillan Cancer Relief Fund.
Money-boosting events included the civic dinner, bonfire night celebrations and a rotary club entertainment evening.
Cllr Gill, who represents the Woodvale ward for the Conservatives, said: "I want to thank everyone who supported the various functions and events and who helped raise such a magnificent sum for this charity.
"Thanks, also, to the many people who worked hard behind the scenes to make them possible."
