BROMSGROVE cyclist Richard Deeley proved he is going from strength to strength after fighting off the challenge of 120 riders to finish fifth at a time trial last Saturday.

The 25-mile trial at Long Bennington, in Nottinghamshire, also saw the 23-year -old ride a personal best 57 mins 36 secs, a time good enough to put him in the lead until the latter stages.

Now Richard, who rides for Stourbridge CC, is training harder than ever to get his speed up for a race on a renowned fast course in Oxford later this month.

Richard said: "Saturday's time trial was nerve wracking because until about 15 minutes before the end, I was in the lead only to have my time beaten in the final stages.

"But I am really pleased with coming fifth and gaining yet another personal best."

Coach Stefan Pearce added: "Richard is in really good form and has been working hard to get himself to this level of fitness.

"He is becoming well known on the cycling circuit for giving top level performances and for his dedication to the sport. I am confident for a consistent finish to the season."
