A COUGHTON grandmother has received the prestigious Bene Merenti award - sent out by the Pope - for services to her local church.
June Quirke received the award for recognition of 30 years' service as an organ player at Coughton's St Peter, Paul and Elizabeth Catholic Church.
The 67 year old finished playing at the church before Christmas.
Mrs Quirke, who has six sons and three daughters and 22 grandchildren has also received a letter of congratulations from the Archbishop of Birmingham.
Mrs Quirke moved to the village in 1957 and started playing the organ after taking piano lessons.
