AN historic lane in Alcester has suffered yet again because of its poor drainage systems.

Residents of Malt Mill Lane and Gashouse Lane had human waste flowing past their homes on Saturday as freak storms forced drains to blow their covers and flood on to the streets.

Alcester Town Clerk Derrick Ward said: "I had a call about the problem and rang Severn Trent straight away and they came out to clear up.

"The Environment Agency, Severn Trent and Warwickshire county and Stratford councils all have some responsibility. It's an ongoing problem."

A Severn Trent spokesman said: "Although it's frustrating for the residents of Malt Mill Lane and the surrounding area, the problem can't be fixed overnight.

"Investigations are being carried out at the pumping station and we're looking at what improvements can be made."
