AN Astwood Bank mum plans to submit a bid to buy Redgrove Lower School and turn it into a pioneering multi-agency project for children with special needs.
Alison Davis told the Redditch Advertiser the project would offer a nursery for children with special needs, day care, after-school care and holiday care for mentally disabled and autistic children and children with challenging behaviour.
Part of the school would also be adapted into a five-bed respite centre.
Miss Davis, who must submit her bid by August 15, conceived the idea in the last few months after struggling to find suitable childcare for her three-and-a-half-year-old son George, who has epilepsy, challenging behaviour and microcephaly, which results in severe learning difficulties and severe speech and language delay.
A Worcestershire County Council spokesman said Redgrove Upper School in Bromsgrove and Lower School in Redditch, for children with behavioural difficulties, were set to re-locate to the site of Icknield First School in Matchborough.
Anyone interested in becoming a trustee can write to Alison Davis, PO Box 10076, Redditch, Worcs B97 4ZR.
