AS they went into church to be married the air raid siren went off. But as they came out they heard the all-clear.
It was a good omen for Tom and Ivy Mayo, who celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary on Saturday.
The couple have lived in Alvechurch for 60 years after meeting on the village's canal bridge where Mrs Mayo, 80, used to meet friends.
Mr Mayo, 85, used to pilot barges up the canal from Gloucester to Cadbury's in Birmingham and moored up for the night at the bridge.
The couple have three daughters, Gillian, Jean and Josephine, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A celebration was held at The White Lion, Astwood Bank.
