RESIDENTS on the outskirts of Redditch are delighted the plug has been pulled on a huge concert venue planned for the Ragley Estate near Alcester.

The Ragley Arena, brainchild of Redditch businessman Paul Isherwood, would have hosted several concerts a year with a capacity of up to 150,000.

It would also have created 35 full-time and 600-700 part-time jobs.

But the Ragley Arena Protest group (RAP), made up of residents from Cookhill, Studley, Alcester and surrounding villages, predicted pollution problems and traffic mayhem if the scheme went ahead.

A Ragley Estate spokesman confirmed a decision had been made to abandon the scheme.
