I COMPLETELY disagree with the remarks made by B Nock (Letters, July 25). Council workers have always been bottom of the pile when it comes to pay rises.
Years ago it was thought that if you got a job on the council you had a cushy number and a job for life.
Compulsory competitive tendering put a stop to that. Thousands of jobs were lost and working conditions became very tight.
There comes a time when you must stick up for your rights. This is probably it.
I feel this Government will have to sit up and take notice, because their reputation hangs on health and education.
The last thing they want is children's education upset because support workers are on strike.
The same applies to the health service.
