DARREN Bullock has decided to add his vast experience to Evesham United's hopes of an improved showing in the Dr Martens League Western Division.

The versatile former Football League star who played at Worcester City last term has already made his mark with the Robins.

"He's had a massive impact in the short time he has been with us," said manager Phil Mullen. "I've known Darren a long time and he will give us that bit of bite that has been lacking in midfield as well as adding a lot of quality."

The Common Road chief isn't fazed by Bullock's well documented disciplinary problems. "He's had his problems but he knows he's got new responsibilities," Mullen admitted.

"He will be our main player and it's important that he concentrates on playing football and using his experience for the good of the team."

And, judging by United's warm-up woes - they lost 3-2 at Ledbury on Tuesday night - Mullen's side will need every ounce of Bullock's experience.

However, the manager is confident of turning things round before the opening league game at home to Gresley on Saturday, August 17.

"I think we will be ok," Mullen admitted. "The squad needs to be strengthened but it hasn't been easy planning for the new season with injuries, holidays and the inclusion of triallists.

"I still haven't finished looking for what I need and that will continue right up until the deadline."

The United boss has also signed up former Lincoln City player Grant Pinkney and is hoping to bring centre back Matt Gardiner to Common Road.

United round off their series of friendly matches with a home game against Hereford, one of Gardiner's former clubs, on Saturday (3pm).

The club's youth team is in action at Common Road on Monday night (7.30) when Bedworth United are the visitors.
