THE Mercian Elgar Junior Football League has just made its maiden century. Founded in 1976, having just celebrated its 25th anniversary last season, for the first time ever it is accommodating in excess of 100 teams encompassing Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire.
Having presented a good balance sheet to its members in June at the AGM, the league's management executive has decided to give every team a match ball.
"We are not out to make a profit. When we feel we have adequate funds we tend to give something back to the clubs. They have had footballs in the past, and also first aid kits, ball nets and pumps," said chairman George Silverman.
The footballs will be available for collection at the next league meeting, on Sunday, at the Bell Inn, St Johns, Worcester at 8pm.
League stationery for the coming season will also be distributed. All clubs are reminded they must be represented.
