KIDDERMINSTER Harriers' defender Parfait Medou-Otye has been forced to quit football on medical grounds.

The 25-year-old Frenchman, who moved to Aggborough on a free transfer from Greenock Morton in November 2000, is suffering from a heart condition.

He has been advised to rest from football for up to 12 months, although if his condition improves he could return to playing sport.

Harriers boss Jan Molby described Medou-Otye's enforced retirement as an 'absolute tragedy', adding: "You would have expected him to have at least another ten years in the game."

Medou-Otye admitted that the result of recent medical tests had come as a 'big shock'.

He said: I was very happy at Kidderminster and I had hoped to stay, but I now have my health to consider."

Medou-Otye made 23 first team appearances for Harriers, including three this season.

Meanwhile, Harriers drew 1-1 in last night's Nationwide League Division Three match against high-riding Mansfield Town at Field Mill.
