KIDDERMINSTER Harriers' stren-gth in depth was highlighted this week when their reserve and youth sides both went to the top of their respective leagues.

The youth team took over number one spot in the Midland Floodlit Youth League Premier Division with a 4-0 win at Racing Warwick while the reserves head the Avon Insurance League Division Two following a 1-0 home win over Halifax Town.

For the second string it was their sixth successive league triumph.

Assistant boss Gary Barnett said: "Players are hitting form in the res-erves and keeping the pressure on those in the first team.

"We're in good shape at the moment throughout the club and have to keep that going during what is a tough Christmas programme."

The reserve and youth sides are managed Ian Britton who was responsible for bringing up-and-coming goalkeeper John Danby to Aggborough.

Danby was handed a place on the substitutes bench last Saturday for the Nationwide League Division Three match at Exeter City when Brendan Murphy was ruled out because of a shoulder injury.

Britton said of 18-year-old Danby: "He is a big, stocky lad and a good shot-stopper. He's also good in the air.

"For 18 he has improved a lot and he will get even better now that he's playing with more experienced players."

Danby was spotted by Britton playing for West Midlands Schools.
