I MUST admit we enjoyed having a few beers after the game against Torquay who wouldn't after such an historic day!

But, don't worry, we've already got down to the hard to the hard work of preparing for Saturday's tough trip to Scunthorpe.

But after opening our eagerly-awaited debut season in Division Three with a deserved 2-0 win it was nice to relax with a pint.

After all, we'd worked hard for the big day and obviously the chairman and directors were equally as pleased as myself and the players.

I think, in the end, everybody was happy that it was all out of the way and we'd come away with a good three points.

First and foremost, though, I must say we were delighted for our supporters.

The atmosphere was great and the fans came prepared for a party.

But in the 48 hours building up to the game we sensed that there was a little bit of anxiety around the whole place because people didn't know what to expect.

I think everybody just wanted us to do well, but they were a little bit worried because we were going into unknown territory.

But near enough right from the word 'go' we got hold of the game and dictated matters.

And that was the signal for the fans to think 'we've arrived, we'll be okay in this league, and they backed the lads for the whole 90 minutes.

I'm sure on Saturday there were what you might call 'drifters' in the crowd who might on other days have gone somewhere else. But I'm sure they would have enjoyed it and hopefully they'll come back and watch us again.

I though it was a good game of football and if the supporters continue to turn up at Aggborough as they did and back us then we'll be delighted.

There will be more difficult opposition, but don't let's take anything away from Torquay. They did well last season and they've got big hopes for themselves again this time.

But we've finished with them for the time being now and we've got to look forward to what will undoubtedly be another stiff examination for us at Scunthorpe.

Just going back to the Torquay game for a minute, though, I must say something about Barry Horne's cracking goal which sealed the points for us in the second half.

Some people question what a 38-year-old can bring to your squad, but I think he proved that on Saturday.

He's always looked after himself and pre-season for players like Barry is a means of getting himself fit. Once we started the real stuff he was going to step things up and I think Torquay found that to their cost.

Once he gets to know a few more of the lads and how to play with them he'll only get better. And if he produces goals like the 30-yarder he got on Saturday then I'll be more than happy!

One or two fans have been asking me if there are any developments over Ian Bogie who I've said we're interested in following his release from Port Vale at the end of last season.

At the moment, though, there's nothing really to report, but until he signs for anyone else we'll keep plugging away.

He's a player we would like to have and if we get him then it would like to have and if we get him then it would be an added bonus.

Anyway, it's off to Scunthorpe on Saturday - see you there and hopefully we'll be able to pick up another good result.
