KIDDERMINSTER Harriers complete an eventful season tomorrow with the final of the Worcestershire Senior Cup -- and then the hard work begins!

Harriers officials have a packed summer agenda which is headed by the appointment of a new manager.

Caretaker boss Ian Britton says he is waiting until after tomorrow's night match with Moor Green at Aggborough before revealing whether he will be applying for the job.

Speculation has been mounting that Britton will be handed the role on a permanent basis ahead of several applicants.

The 45-year-old Bristolian was promoted from reserve and youth team manager following the departure of Molby and his assistant Gary Barnett.

He has been popular with the players and helped the side to a final position of 10th in the Nationwide League Division Three -- six places higher than last season but loyal Britton said: "It's nice the fans and the players have been behind me. Getting the players on your side is the biggest thing at any club and they have been first class.

"We have had a laugh but we have worked hard. My philosophy is simple -- if you're happy going to work then there's a better chance you will perform.

"I've enjoyed every moment of the 11 years here. I've had good tutors in Graham Allner and Jan Molby and before that worked under Geoff Hurst at Telford and Dave Mackay at Walsall.

"There are a lot of things I've learnt. But let me tell you this. There's nothing harder in football than telling kids of 16 and 17 'sorry son, you ain't going to make it'. It's like their whole world has caved in.

"I've been here 11 years and dealt with all the players from youth to first teamers. I've known them all a long time and I treat them all the same."

Kidderminster chairman Colin Youngjohns has dropped a hint that Britton, if he applies, would be a strong contender for the job.

"We do not intend to let the situation drag on," said Young-johns, who describes Britton as having done a 'magnificent job' as caretaker.

Another major item on Harriers agenda is raising much- needed funds following the recent bombshell resignation of millionaire Lionel Newton as chairman.

He called it a day because of lack of support through the turnstiles and from businesses in the Wyre Forest area.

Arrangements however have already been made for two home pre-season friendlies in July.

Reading, promoted from the Second Division, will visit Aggborough on Friday July 19, while Cardiff City will make the trip on Wednesday July 31.
