TWO new pieces of equipment were highlighted by Pershore-based Spearhead Machinery on its stand at the Royal Show.

The Countryside Stewardship scheme calls for six-metre headlands which the new Spearhead 620 mower will cut with capacity to spare. The high output 6.2m cutting width enables more than 150 acres to be topped in a day.

To meet the needs of contractors and large-scale farmers, the company has filled a gap in its range with a new telescopic arm hedgecutter. The new Excel 645T is compatible with tractors of 80 to 120hp and over 4,000kg and can be fitted with the company's Autopilot control system for ditch and dyke mowing.

"The show turned out to be much better than we expected," said Jock McLaren, sales director. "We had feared that with Grassland 2002 and the Cereals Event having only recently taken place that the Royal would turn into yet another gymkhana. However, we were happily surprised."

The Spearhead 620 costs £16,945 and the Excel 645T £13,876.
