A MAN was cut by flying glass after chemicals put in a pint glass exploded in his face at a Worcester pub.

Police were called to Sidbury's Barley Mow pub at 12.20am today, after reports of an explosion and found the man with facial injuries.

They think the chemical put into the glass reacted with the liquid.

An ambulance spokeswoman confirmed the man, of unknown age, had been taken to the casualty department at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

He was treated for his injuries, which were not thought to be life-threatening.

Police said a second person - believed to be a man - may also have been injured in the explosion.

But he had left the pub by the time emergency services arrived on the scene.

Landlady Mary Sweeney, who lives at the pub, was unavailable for comment this morning, but a member of staff said the pub was in "a bit of a mess".

A West Mercia Constabulary spokesman said officers were still investigating the incident.

Two crews from Worcester fire station also attended the explosion, but did not have to intervene.
