MP Peter Luff has backed a bid for Lottery money to restore the canals in Droitwich.
The Mid-Worcestershire MP wrote to the director of the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), Anthea Case, urging her to give the most "sympathetic hearing possible" to the bid for funds to reopen the Droitwich barge and junction canals.
Mr Luff said he was concerned because the number of Lottery donations in the county had been well below average in the past.
"This important project will restore one of the oldest and one of the most recent canals in the UK, bringing back to life Droitwich's proud history as a salt producing town," he said.
"I very much hope that the HLF will be able to contribute to this vital project.
"I hope that this evidence of under-spending by the Lottery bodies in Worcestershire will help persuade them to support the scheme."
