The consultation paper details a proposal put together by the Theatres chief executive Nic Lloyd, who is seeking a 30-year lease to continue running Malvern Theatres and expand on its work in creating a quality venue with a national reputation.

In order to achieve financial independence from Malvern Hills Dis-trict Council by 2004 /05, the bid asks that the existing £600,000 deficit be written off.

It also suggests new projects be developed to increase the Theatre's existing income. The paper says the bid wants to:

Maximise the use of the theatre's overall capacity and individual venues.

Negotiate significant improvements to the existing catering contract to increase income for the Theatres.

Create Malvern Productions to develop new touring shows from Malvern which it is forecast would generate £90,000 in its first year and up to £360,000 additional annual income by year five.

Expand the range of corporate and community activities in The Forum with the aim of generating around £100, 000 in the first year and up to £120,000 by the fifth year.

Create the post of development manager whose job would be to generate additional sponsorship income.

Expand the Trust to broaden its range of skills and widen representation from the local community.

As well as ensuring financial independence in their five-year plan, Mr Lloyd has said that money will also be set aside for the next stage of improvements to the buildings.
