A MAN who suffered severe head injuries during an attack in Leominster has been described as "still critical" today.

Jonathan Lawrence was allegedly assaulted by a group of men in Old School Lane on Wednesday evening.

Thirty-one year-old Leyland Barrington, also from Leominster has been charged with attempted murder following the incident in Old School Lane last Wednesday.

He appeared before Hereford magistrates on Saturday and is due to reappear before them tomorrow.

Four men were originally arrested in connection with the incident, but three of them have been released without charge.

"This is a very serious assault and at this stage we are treating it as attempted murder," said Det Chief Insp Dave Morgan, who is leading the investigation.

Mr Lawrence is 6ft tall, athletic build with short, dark hair with no particular style.

At the time of the incident he was wearing a dark blue Polo shirt, white Adidas shorts, blue and white Adidas trainers and white socks.

The 29-year-old is being treated in Queen Elizabeth II Hospital, Birmingham.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident, which occurred at around 9.45pm
