A BIG-HEARTED Barnt Green resident who has donated blood to save the lives of others for 39 years has been honoured at a prestigious ceremony.
Sixty-year-old Roy Mee, of Bittell Road, was awarded with a crystal plate for making 75 donations to the National Blood Service (NBS).
He was among 31 others at the prestigious ceremony in Birmingham recently.
Sara Jane Evans from Meriden, near Coventry presented the awards.
She suffers from severe anaemia and relies on blood transfusions every four to six weeks.
Roy said: "It was a fantastic day.
"It was particularly interesting to meet one of the recipients who benefits from our blood donations."
NBS communications officer, Rebecca Hosgood, said: "Mr Mee is one of the quiet heroes of society who has helped his community tremendously.
"His dedication could have helped to save or enhance the lives of 225 people in his year of donating and people like Mr Mee help us to meet the 1000 units of blood that local hospitals require everyday.
"Congratulations and thank you for being a lifesaver."
