MAKING a date with Evening News staff and helping to raise funds for a city charity should be on everyone's Christmas list this year.

Men from various departments at the Hylton Road headquarters in Worcester are stripping off for a saucy calendar in aid of Acorns Children's Hospice.

The 12-month colour delight will feature reporters, advertising salesmen and printers in all their splendour.

"We wanted to do something that would help raise money for the new hospice on Bath Road and have fun at the same time," said health reporter Suzy Austin, who came up with the idea.

"There'll be 12 hunky fellas to choose from, all hand-picked to pose for it.

"It's been surprising how many have volunteered, but they are all keen to help raise thousands of pounds for Acorns.

"We're sure they're all exhibitionists at heart!"

The photo shoots are due to begin soon, but before the calendar can be produced, the

Evening News is looking for sponsors.

There are 12 spots available, one for each month.

"We want to cut the costs to produce the calendar so that more money goes directly to Acorns," said Suzy.

"We're asking for contributions of £75 or more for a company logo on each month.

"Businesses are, of course, welcome to make as big a donation as they see fit.

"It means we could raise more than £5,000 for the new hospice."

Suzy has teamed up with fellow reporter Alison Fraser for the fund-raising. The education reporter is walking the Inca Trail in Peru for Acorns and has already raised £2,000.

"We're always keen to support Acorns as it is a worthwhile charity," said Andy Tipler, managing director of Newsquest Midlands South, which owns the Evening News.

"It's a novel and excellent idea by the staff. It shows a great deal of initiative and bravery.

"I hope local companies are able to help us support Acorns."
