ASA Charlton has probably one of the most interesting jobs among the Worcester City players.

The 24-year-old is a drayman for Carlsberg and will definitely be the man to talk to if City land any silverware this season and need a few pints to celebrate.

Already a veteran of six clubs and a stint in America on a football scholarship, Charlton is a predominantly left-sided player with a neat touch, aggression and good passing ability.

His footballing skill was first spotted as a teenager when for two years he was one of Ian Britton's youth players at Kidderminster Harriers.

At 18 he signed for Willenhall Town before joining Telford United in the Conference under Steve Daley where he played about 10 first team games.

"I did okay but I was pretty young and never really got a chance to establish myself," he recalls.

However Charlton was not down-hearted for too long and set his horizons a lot wider with a move to South Carolina.

"My friend was talking about doing a football scholarship so I decided to write off and try my luck.

"I was fed up at not playing and the manager from South Carolina came and watched me and offered me a four year computer science scholarship."

He was there for a year, playing in places like Florida, but with college football playing a poor second to women's soccer he decided to return to England and complete his degree at Wolverhampton University.

While there he represented both English and British University teams.

After leaving university he played for Rushall Olympic where he was snapped up by Rod Brown at Stourport Swifts after their promotion to the Dr Martens Western Division for the first time.

It was an enjoyable time for Charlton.

"It was a really friendly club and to some extent still run as a Banks's League team which was a good thing about it with supporters travelling on the coach to away matches," he said.

However, when the chance to join John Barton's City arrived he had no hesitation in moving.

"It all happened very quickly but it was an easy decision to make," he said.

"The only concern was the travelling from Wolverhampton but I wanted to have a go at playing at a higher level and Worcester seems a really big club."
