WORCESTER Sixth Form College principal John Tredwell says he is not certain there will not be a similar fiasco next year.

Following the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority Annual Conference he says students might be mislead about what their modules are worth.

For last year's A-level students AS modules counted towards 50 per cent of their final grade.

"The AS modules might count for only 40 per cent and that is very bad," said Mr Tredwell.

"The students think they've got 50 per cent of their marks.

"It's because the QCA is frightened to death of getting the same situation next year.

"You can't start people off on a course and say it counts for 50 per cent, then change it.

"One of our colleagues was there on Thursday and that is what she says was talked about."

Mr Tredwell said that the college was having three subjects re-marked following his summer's problems.

All music papers, Latin and the A-level PE papers are being re-graded ahead of tomorrow's deadline.

"We don't think pupils have been fairly treated," said Mr Tredwell.

"Some subjects haven't been looked at when we think they should be.

"The problem the QCA had is that with the new AS-level system students collect units throughout the two years.

"If you get a good grade you can bank it.

"In the summer of your A2 year you might be doing only one or two units.

"If you think 90 per cent will get As, the only thing you can do to stop that is mark down on coursework and that's what's happened in a lot of subjects."
