YOUNGSTERS in a Worcester village are celebrating after winning an award after transforming overgrown wasteland into a village amenity.
The Abberley Tomorrow Youth Group won £500 from Worcestershire County Council's Community Pride Group for clearing woodland in the village to create a BMX route, picnic area and natural habitat project.
Royston Evans, spokesman for the group, said the award was testimony to the youth of the village.
"The woodland was overgrown with scrub, nettles and fallen trees," he said. "It was almost impossible to get through the woods.
"However, through the winter weekends rubbish was eventually cleared.
"Since then seeds have been sown and tables, seating and bird boxes also constructed.
"We hope this new area will bring a lot of pleasure to not only young people, but everyone in the community."
