AN open day to encourage more people to join West Mercia police has been declared a success by a chief superintendent.
As part of a campaign to recruit 300 new officers by April next year, displays on all aspects of policing, from traffic to forensics, were mounted in Hereford's Shirehall.
Around 300 people visited last year's event and divisional commander Chief Supt Guy Rutter said there were even more visitors to this event.
"We are absolutely delighted with the interest the open day received, and although visitor numbers have not yet been confirmed, I can say well over 100 recruitment packs were handed out," he said.
"Our aim is to encourage as many people as possible to join West Mercia Constabulary, by giving them a flavour of the wide variety of career opportunities available in the police service."
The total number of officers in West Mercia currently stands at 2,151, after 40 probationers and 11 transferees took the constable's oath during an attestation ceremony last week.
Anyone interested in joining the police should contact the personnel department at Hereford Police Station on 01432 276422.
