Five star
Wow! These boys have certainly done their homework and what they've handed in is a solid slab of nail hard, seriously exciting rock 'n' roll.
Taking their cue from a raft of 70s riff merchants, this young four-piece from New Zealand have foregone the messing about and gone straight for the jugular with their own brand of heavy metal.
But wisely they leave the stodge out of the mix.
If you like titanic chord changes, wild guitar breaks and the rawest of vocals, then buy this.
Though AC/DC might have been an influence, The Datsuns are so much better, keeping an eye on the overall musicality of their songs.
And if they were determined to create an almost breathless excitement then they succeeded in every way and possibly put New Zealand on the musical map in the process.
The first track Sittin' Pretty sums up the band's no-holds-barred approach instantly and is immediately and unbelievably bettered by MF From Hell where the Datsuns really should take a bow for sing-along chorus of the year.
And Harmonic Generator manages to blend a strange funkiness with bizarre Bananarama-esque backing vocals. It's an absolute treat.
Their gigs must be a riot.
