DEAR EDITOR - The recent article on the Pay-on-Foot barrier system on all Bromsgrove's car parks is the culmination of several concerning parking.
The first story to mention barriers was the item concerning Asda's extension and the car park changes. My first thought on this was that this is the end of free parking for senior citizens and disabled badge holders.
Then came the story that senior citizens would be charged £30 per year to cover administration costs for free passes. This equates to sixty pence per week for fifty weeks of the year, thus nullifying the free parking for those that visit Bromsgrove car parks once a week. It also raises the question - are we paying for this service twice - once through the exorbitant council taxes and again through the administration charge?
There was then a further story that senior citizens would be charged £30 per year if they wanted cheap bus travel plus free car parking; no mention was made for those wanting free car parking only.
My questions are what is going to happen when the barrier system is introduced? What will be the parking costs, and will senior citizens and disabled badge holders be able to park free, and at what cost?
