THE Society's 41st season opened with a wonderful recital by pianist Yuri Paterson-Olenich, making a return visit to Redditch.
A Mozart Sonata was followed by three Spanish Dances by Granados, a composer whose works Yuri much enjoys playing.
This was very evident in the performance which brought the warmth and colour of the country to life.
Three delightful Valsas Choros by the virtually unknown Brazilian composer, Mignone, who was born in the late 19th century followed.
His music was introduced to Yuri by a musician friend from Brazil and on this hearing should be more widely performed. The audience certainly thought so.
The second half of the programme saw a quite magnificent performance of Chopin's 24 Preludes which brought prolonged applause from an enthusiastic audience which, happily, included a significant number of the younger generation. There is no doubt Yuri will be asked back for a third time.
The next concert on November 2 will be given by the Dadelsen Trio, who will play music in the Palm Court mode, including favourites by Elgar, Schubert and more. It should be a very entertaining evening. For more information on this or for details of the society, call 546056.
