BOXING: A Kidderminster martial arts instructor has taken a successful first step into the sport of amateur boxing.
James Boyle, who teaches at Winsper's School of Blackbelts, won his first bout with a third-round stoppage at a charity tournament between West Mercia and Wales.
Boyle has been training at the Droitwich Amateur Boxing Club for the last five months.
Weighing in at just under 82kgs, Boyle took on the heavier Chris Bradbury in Mid Glamorgan.
The ringside doctor called a halt to the contest on the opening bell of the third round with Bradbury damaging his nose.
Boyle said: "This was completely different to any of the martial arts competition that I've previously been involved in and I have to say that it was an exhilarating experience.
"I've come away with plenty to work on so I'll be straight back into the gym to start getting ready for my next contest."
