R COLE (Letters, September 26) hit the nail on the head when he asked what is so special about the residents of Linden Avenue, Kidderminster, that they have been trying for the road to be access only for the past 20 years.

There is nothing special about them except, perhaps, there are some more selfish than the rest of us.

They don't want us to drive on "their road". Those of them who are campaigning to ban through traffic (not all the residents are) park their cars on the road at the end of their deserted driveways where there is standing space for more than one vehicle, just to make it awkward for the normal motorist to use the road.

A cynic might say they are hoping for an accident to label this road as dangerous, thus giving credence to their campaign.

This is a quiet relief road. We who use it object strongly to being called "rats". We are motorists, who pay road tax and council tax, contributing to the upkeep of all roads in the area. The road does not belong to this selfish minority.

According to the Highways Agency this is a perfectly good road for normal traffic. There is no justification for closing it. So what is going on?
