DISAPPOINTMENT was etched across the faces of Evesham United chairman and manager, Jim Cockerton and Phil Mullen after last weekend's inglorious FA Cup exit.
Both men were unanimous in their feelings that the day had been a huge let down but still happy in the knowledge that £16,000 had been banked.
"They just didn't perform at all," remarked the chairman after the 4-0 third qualifying round reverse at Havant and Waterlooville.
"If 'Smudger' (Andy Smith) had seen his shot go in and not hit a post then things might have been different but we deserved nothing on the day.
"The money will give us a nice footing for next season and we've got to make sure that we bounce back this weekend."
Mullen was equally critical of his charges but pointed to the absence of three key players.
"It was a massive disappointment," he moaned.
"It would have been difficult if we had been at full strength, I knew it was going to be tough but the performance was dire."
The Robins picked up the welcome cash from the FA Cup pot on the strength of replay wins over Brislington and Cinderford and a 2-1 win at Falmouth on what proved a tough qualifying round that ended with almost one-way traffic towards the Evesham goal as Havant proved that they were "Up for the Cup."
