IT will be the end of an era for policing in Bidford when its community beat officer retires this month.

PC Peter Batacanin has served the village for 20 years and will be retiring from Warwickshire Police Force on Monday, October 28. A reception to thank him for his service was held in Salford Priors last week.

PC Batacanin, who has received three commendations during his service, could be in line for one more award after he was selected as Warwickshire's nomination for the national community beat officer of the year award.

Inspector Tim Bailey paid tribute to PC Batacanin's service. He said: "Pete has given tremendous service over 20 years as the Bidford community beat officer and has been greatly supported by his wife, Libby. Pete will be missed by many and I wish him a long and happy retirement from the force."

Taking over from PC Batacanin is PC Peter Gateley, who said he is looking forward to beginning his duties in the village.

PC Gateley, aged 51, has been with Warwickshire Police Force for 27 years and has been based entirely in the Stratford area. He is currently working as a community beat officer in Studley, and has previously worked as a response car driver and as a tutor constable, training new recruits for the force.

He said: "I am delighted to have been selected as the new community beat officer for Bidford, I look forward to quickly meeting as many people as I can and continuing the good service which has been given by my predecessor."

PC Gateley can be contacted at Alcester police station on 01789 762207 or by email at peter.gateley@warwickshire.pnn.police.uk.
