Pershore 15pts, Evesham 8
LOCAL honours went Pershore's way at Piddle Park last Saturday when a brace of home scores was sufficient to earn the winners their first league points of the season.
Both sides came into the game pointless and it's Evesham who now sit firmly at the bottom of West Midlands Two after a fourth straight defeat.
Missing a host of regular players and, with several players playing out of position, the end result was testament to Pershore's character and determination.
Solid defence thwarted early visiting thrusts and only Chris Evis penalty separated the sides at the halfway point of the opening 40 minutes.
The hosts now began to play to their strengths and good driving play from the forwards pegged Evesham back in their own 22 for the final 15 minutes of the half.
Gareth Lewis levelled from the touchline before a superb dummy by Robin Haines created the space for the Pershore man to cross for the afternoon's first try.
A successful conversion by the scorer gave Pershore a 7-3 interval advantage and they continued to dominate play after the restart.
However, aimless kicks and stray passes allowed the visitors the chance to regroup but, with Dave Roscoe and Martin Hope superb in the second row, Pershore moved forward with purpose.
Intelligent play from scrum-half Sid Hirons led to a second score following some quick thinking. A half break from Haines released Jason Smith who touched down in the corner.
Lewis missed a difficult conversion and the hosts were forced on the defensive late on as Evesham came storming back.
Ben Pullin denied the visitors a try in the corner but, from the ensuing line-out, the Evesham flanker drove over for a consolation score.
