THE jobless total for Worcestershire has come down.
Figures released by the Government show that 133 fewer people claimed unemployment benefit in Worcestershire during September than was the case in August.
The figure now stands at 5,468 claiming unemployment benefit.
Most of the reduction was accounted for at Kidderminster, where 64 fewer people claimed unemployment benefit in September than compared to the previous month's figure.
Evesham also recorded a reduction, with 27 fewer unemployed.
The town's jobless total dropped to 364, while in Kidderminster it came down to 1,192.
Good news
This is good news given the recent downturn in manufacturing and, in particular, the perceived downturn in the carpet industry, which affects Kidderminster.
Malvern's jobless total rose, with 25 more people unemployed in September than in August. The town's unemployment benefits queue stands at 404.
Herefordshire's jobless total has also risen, with 1,613 people now unemployed in the county, up 29.
Most of the increase was in Hereford, where 24 more people claimed unemployment benefit in September, the figure rising to 1,253.
Leominster recorded a drop in unemployment of two people, bringing its total to 246.
