A CHASE Technology College pupil denied a Cambridge University place by an unexpectedly poor A'Level grade has had her paper remarked and her grade increased.
The unnamed pupil was left a grade short of her conditional offer of a place to read English when she received a B in History A'Level.
The grade was reassessed as an A but the student has already started a course at York University. Cambridge has offered her a place next year.
Head of sixth form Mike Woods said his former pupil was "pretty stoical" about the mix-up but has to decide whether to abandon her current course and wait a year to go to Cambridge. Two other pupils also had their English grades raised, although it is not believed to have affected their future.
Peter Buchanan, headteacher at Dyson Perrins CE High School, said every pupil who took history has had their coursework marks increased. However, the revised marks only led to one overall grade increase when 18-year-old Laura Williams had a D grade upgraded to a C.
Rob Haring, deputy head at Hanley Castle High School, said one pupil had been upgraded from a C to a B in physics AS-Level but it had not affected her future prospects.
Frank Harriss, director of studies at Malvern College, said there had been five remarks at AS-level, which had seen grades move up one place, but none at A'Level.
Jane Potter, from Malvern Girls' College, said there had only been one regrading at AS-level English literature, where a pupil was moved up from a B to an A, but that no pupil's future direction had been affected.
