A LARGE field entered the October Medal competition at the Worcestershire Golf Club and the standard of play throughout was exceptional.
The first five players in all three divisions equalled or bettered the par for the course.
In Division One four players returned to the clubhouse with a one below par score of 70 and could only be separated on the usual count back system. As a result Colin Lane was placed in fifth position, chairman Terry Smith in fourth, local solicitors Dennis Chetwood in third and Chas Poole in second.
All four players were four shots worse than Phil Dance who returned a score of 67. Phil played excellent golf throughout his round to return a four under par score and to be the clear winner of Division One.
Low scores were also the order of the day in Division Two. Barry Schofield came fourth with a par 71, one shot behind Malcolm Fulwell who came third. In second place with the excellent score of 68 was Mike Holt. The winner of Division Two returning a score of 65 was Fred Wortley. Fred's score was the best of the day.
Simon Long won Division Three with a 67. Simon was two shots better than Ron Richardson who returned a 69 to hold on to second place. Chris Massey was third with a score of 70.
Seven members from the club entered the Worcestershire County Seniors Championship held this year at the Stourbridge Golf Club. Whilst the winner of the competition was Ken Murton of Boughton Park, the second prize was won by club member and president of the Worcestershire Union of Golf Clubs, Norman Bolton. Norman, playing off a handicap of eight, returned a net score of 72, two strokes below the course standard scratch score of the day.
In the Ladies Three Ball Alliance Stableford competition three teams returned a score of 84 points to be separated on the count back.
The team of Sabrina Willett, Liz Bird and Heather Morgan were placed third. In second place with 86 points were the team of Feya Recordon, Liz Pool and Evelyn Hill. The winners however were Pat Rose, Joyce Hebbs and Faith Tubb who returned the very creditable score of 88 points.
