THE inept dramatic ambitions of the Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomens' Guild Dramatic Society are set to entertain audiences in Colwall next week, thanks to the Colwall Players.
David McGillivray and Walter Zerlin Jnr's comedy follows the society's attempt to stage Shakespeare's Macbeth for a local drama competition.
Unfortunately, personality conflicts rise to the surface adding further drama to an already complicated plot. The technical side doesn't exactly go according to plan, and the whole thing turns into more of a comedy of errors.
The Colwall Players have been rehearsing the play since July. They decided to resurrect the indefatigable ladies after performing a different Farndale show in the mid 1990s.
"It's been great fun," said Angela Meredith, who plays Thelma/Macbeth in the show.
"Half the humour is that as amateur dramatics people ourselves we are well aware of the things that can go wrong!"
Despite the fun, Ms Meredith said that the roles were demanding on the cast.
"It's hard work as it involves a lot of physical humour too. The difficulty in this role is you have to be your Townswomens' Guild woman and then play somebody else as that person."
The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townwomens' Guild Dramatic Society's Production of Macbeth runs from Thursday to Saturday (October 24 to 26) at Colwall Village Hall, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5, available from John Goodwin in Colwall on 01684 540300.
A second run will take place at the Conquest Theatre, Bromyard on Friday and Saturday, November 1 and 2. Tickets are £6, available from the box office on 01885 488575.
