A WORCESTERSHIRE village is set to receive a boost with the installation of a new sewerage system.
Severn Trent Water is investing almost £300,000 to improve the ageing system in Piddle Brook near Pershore, helping to reduce pollution in the brook.
A total of 850m of ageing pipe in Worcester Road and Wyre Road, which pumps sewage from the Wyre Piddle pumping station, will be replaced with new, larger pipe.
Larry Barnes, Severn Trent Water's field services manager, said parts of the sewer were over 100 years old.
"The existing pumping station also needs some improvement work as, during heavy rain, it has and could continue to cause pollution to the nearby Piddle Brook," he said.
"As well as improving the water quality of the local brook, this project will also make the area more attractive to both wildlife and local people."
Work is due to start today and should be completed by February next year.
The project forms part of a five-year programme where Severn Trent Water say they will be investing about £1m every day to improve water and waste services to customers.
