THE Evening News recently reported that a man was involved in a fatal crash and subsequently fined, with a licence endorsement, for having a faulty tyre on a borrowed car.
Could I add a word of warning to your readers? Worcestershire County Council Roads Department can seriously affect your chances of keeping your driving licence.
Recently, I had a service done on my six-year-old car that revealed a partly hidden and badly worn portion of, what was a reasonable tread, on a front tyre.
It appeared that the alignment of the front wheels was at fault.
On questioning the tyre fitter on the reason for this sudden misalignment, I was told that the current potholed state of the roads in this area was the culprit. I was told that the incidence of this problem was far higher in Worcestershire than anywhere else in his experience.
This is borne out by my own experience. In my occupation as a salesman, I travel the length and breadth of the UK.
I always know when I am back in Worcestershire because my body and my car are subjected to a pounding not present in other areas.
I was lucky that the problem was spotted before the police or the ambulance service was involved. Your readers might not be so lucky.
T A JAMES,
Drakes Broughton, Worcestershire.
