A WORCESTER pub has laid down the gauntlet to trivia lovers as it holds the first heat of a national contest to find the brainiest pub quiz team.
The Talbot, in Barbourne Road, will be pushing the team's general knowledge to the limits during the first round of the competition, which will be held next month.
The contest, which is open to anyone aged 18 or over, has been organised by the John Barras pub chain, which owns the city based watering hole, and Holsten Pils lager.
Teams will be asked specifically designed questions from the British Quiz Association for the contest, with the winning team going through to the Brains of Britain final in Manchester on Saturday, January 11.
The national winner will scoop £1,000 prize money.
Opportunity
Linda Bloomer, manager at The Talbot, said it was a superb opportunity for Worcester teams to pit their wits against the other 100 pubs throughout the UK taking part in the competition.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for local brain boxes," she said.
"As a community pub we regularly hold quiz nights. However, we've never offered our customers the chance to participate in an event on this scale.
"If you think you and your friends know the who's who and historical figures, then I challenge you to put your egos to the test by participating in our quiz."
Anyone wanting to take part should contact The Talbot on 01905 723744.
