THE trust which runs the Alexandra Hospital went on the defensive to clear up what it claims is misunderstanding regarding the level of ophthalmology services there.
The Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust wrote to Redditch Council before councillors were due to vote on a motion objecting to 'slowly disappearing' eye services.
Trust finance and performance director Paul Taylor denied any reductions.
Unfortunately for the trust, none of the councillors were aware of the letter and voted unanimously with the motion.
They called for a service equal to Kidderminster's, where there are two consultants, and Worcester's where there are four.
Redditch and Bromsgrove share one full and one part-time consultant.
The trust acknowledged there was 'inequity' in facilities but said waiting times at the Alexandra were 'comparable' to Worcester or Kidderminster.
