Four star
THE fantastic title track tips this otherwise average offering into the realms of greatness.
With Anastacia-like vocals, this funky, country-tinged number is the best on the album.
And there are thankfully less power ballads than anticipated, which hints that LeAnn has taken on a new direction, as well as a new look.
In fact, songs like the catchy first single Life Goes On, Wound Up, which is a bit Tori Amos but less weird, and quite raunchy Tic Toc are worlds apart from the nauseating, yet strangely popular, How Do I Live.
Another stand-out track is No Way Out - quite 'rocky' in places with breathy Madonna-style voiceovers.
The singer, who recorded her first album aged 11 and earned two Grammys when she was 13, says Twisted Angel is 'autobiographical, in a way' and reflects the maturity she has achieved over the last few years.
Damn is good for a slow-ish effort, but we're hovering dangerously near ballad territory with Love Is An Army, The Safest Place and Review My Kisses - something LeAnn should get away from if she's attempting to shed her 'little girl with the big voice' image.
