THERE were no surprises at Masshouse at the weekend as Five Ways Old Edwardians came up short against a fellow North Midlands One side in the second round Midlands of the Powergen Junior Vase.
A narrow win over a Bournville side plying their trade two divisions lower down the ladder had earned Chris Sims' side a slot in the second round but Old Eds crashed out 23-5 at home to leave them to concentrate on their league survival battle.
The cup result was an improvement on the 33-3 defeat Five Ways had suffered at home to the same opposition a fortnight earlier.
Five Ways have it all to do at the weekend in their derby clash at mid-table Woodrush (ko 3pm).
Sims' strugglers, who narrowly beat the drop last season, are propping up the league after four consecutive league defeats.
They have yet to pick up a point and are already four points adrift of third from bottom Stourport with two sides earmarked for relegation.
Sims will be hoping to stem a flow of points conceded which has seen the basement boys leak more than 50 points a game in their opening fixtures.
