WITH regard to the double-decker being brought by First (Midland Red) to Worcester, it was on October 1, 1976 that the last double-deckers were used in Worcester by the company and the day that Malvern garage closed in Spring Lane.
The last double-deckers were D9s (designed and built by the company) 5319, 5351 and 5445 and Daimlers 5257, 5282, 6017, 6052, 6053 and 6093.
They were replaced mostly by Leyland Nationals. The first of this type bought by Midland Red entered service in October, 1972, and can be seen around Worcester painted yellow and used for driver training HHAIOIL.
In those days, all Midland Red buses in Worcester were British-built.
