A GROUP of Spa nursing home residents celebrated when their new building was officially opened by the town's mayor.
Councillor Terry Spencer (Con-Droit Central) officially opened the new building at St John's Nursing Home, off the Holloway, last Tuesday.
The multi-million pound revamp created 26 new single bedrooms, which are all en-suite. The project will also include the redevelopment of the original building, which will create an additional 14 single rooms and three self-care flats.
The residents, who range from aged 64 to 98, moved into their new rooms this month.
"We tried to involve the residents as much as possible. They all seem really excited about their new rooms," said the home's manager Hazel Orr.
"The extension has meant that all of the residents now have their own room and bathroom giving them a better quality of life which they all deserve - it's just like a hotel."
The extension and refurbishment has been funded by the owners Shaw Homes Ltd.
