A dog walking area which is causing concern is too expensive to improve, according to Stratford Council.

Alcester Town Council had written to the district council asking for trees and bushes in Hopkins Precinct to be cut back after complaints elderly residents were too scared to walk through it at night because of youths jumping out at them.

But the district has written back saying the work would cost about £5,000 and nearby residents would need to be consulted.

Town councillor Wendy Weatherhead said Alcester Trades and Labour Club supported the appeal.

Mrs Weatherhead wrote to the district expressing her fears after a dog owner had to fork out £300 on vet bills because his dog cut his paws on broken glass.

It has been suggested the town council asks for an independent quote for the work.
