WARTIME memories are being sought as part of an important project to record every Second World War installation in and around Redditch.
Mike Johnson, of Cookhill, who is making the appeal, is a volunteer for the Defence of Worcestershire project which aims to build up a comprehensive picture of the town during the war.
Though much is already known, Mr Johnson believes there is still a wealth of information about the location of things like air raid shelters to be discovered.
The advent of war saw various Redditch factories like HDA making war equipment and consequently the town became a target.
A recent discovery was that of a possible radio counter-measures unit near the Baptist Church in Cookhill used to jam signals which led German bombers to their target.
Mr Johnson, who is retired, would also like to hear from those in the Home Guard as they will also have valuable recollections which need recording.
He already has a list of many wartime installations like anti-aircraft batteries in Bordesley Lane and Lowan's Hill and the Royal Observer Corps Site at the old Gaumont Cinema in Church Road.
But if anyone has information about any others, no matter how small, they can call Mr Johnson on 892228 or email mjohnson@clara.co.uk
