THE countdown to this year's Victorian Christmas Fayre has been given a festive boost with the news that Sainsbury's has agreed to sponsor the event.
Both the Lychgate supermarket and Worcester City Council have pledged to bring the magic of the Christmas past back to the city for the 10th year.
Among the attractions lined up for the street market are crafts, gifts and food, including mulled wine and roasted chestnuts, traditional funfair rides, street performers and carol singers.
The fayre, which is due to be set up in historic Cornmarket, New Street and Friar Street, was launched in 1993 to boost tourism by the council in conjunction with the Christmas Fayre Committee.
"We're delighted that Sainsbury's has agreed to sponsor this year's fayre as part of its commitment to supporting the arts and local communities," said Coun Derek Prodger, portfolio holder for community services.
"The event has grown into a major attraction and I'm confident that this year's programme will be even bigger and better."
Tens of thousands of fayre visitors are expected to descend on the Faithful City from Thursday, November 28 to Sunday, December 1.
