John Davies of South Cheshire Recorded Music Society gave a presentation entitled Musical Forms, which related to dance rhythms.
Members heard a polonaise by Wagner, Valse Triste by Sibelius, Chopin's Mazurka no 23 in D and the sarabande from Grieg's Holberg Suite.
After a scherzo from Malcolm Arnold's Fifth Symphony Mr Davies asked members who they would have thought wrote the work if they had not been told it was Arnold. Everyone replied "Bernstein".
There was a sonata from Ignaz Brll's Piano Concerto no 1, the rondo from James Hook's Clarinet Concerto in E flat, the gavotte from Prokofiev's Classical Symphony, a Schlozer etude, a fugue from Ives' Fourth Symphony and the Siciliano from an oboe concerto by Cimarosa.
The evening closed with the pavane from Capriol Suite by Peter Warlock, and music by Adolf von Henselt.
Tomorrow chairman Graham Kiteley will present The Inextinguishable, comprising music by Neilsen, from 7.30pm at Holy Innocents Hall.
