IN the run up to Bonfire night Kidderminster Police are visiting schools to encourage young people to enjoy it safely.
Officers will use a video to put across to children under 10 the message that fireworks are dangerous and should be handled by responsible adults.
The scheme is aimed at Wyre Forest pupils in areas where police have received reports of youngsters throwing firecrackers on streets.
Last year, there were 38 firework-related incidents in Offmore and Comberton.
Beat manager Bob Fearnall said: "It is very important that children and their parents are aware of the risk of causing serious injury to themselves and others.
"Anti-social use of fireworks causes a tremendous amount of distress and is an offence which can lead to a fine of up to £5,000."
Retailers have been reminded fireworks must not be supplied to under-18s and it is against the law to supply bangers, mini-rockets and jumping crackers to anyone.
Those who fail to comply can be fined £5,000 or face a prison sentence of up to six months.
